School Counseling

The Role of the School Counselor

School counselors are vital members of the educational team in the TCIS community. They help all students in the areas of academic, career/post-secondary planning, personal/social needs, and spiritual development. The counselors collaborate, consult, and teach both in and out of the classroom. The school counselors’ primary purpose is to give students the tools they need to be successful.

Counseling Department Mission Statement

As student advocates, TCIS counselors support students in discovering themselves, their passions, and future directions in life. Counselors collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and the surrounding community to maximize every student’s potential through delivery of a K-12 developmental and culturally appropriate program that is comprehensive and supports academic, career/post-secondary planning, personal/social needs, and spiritual development of all students.

TCIS Counseling Beliefs

The TCIS Comprehensive Counseling Program does the following:

  • Supports the TCIS Missions Statement and IB Learner Profile
  • Addresses academic, career/post-secondary planning, personal/social needs, and spiritual development of all students

The Counselors at TCIS believe that all students:

  • Should feel safe, supported and accepted
  • Are capable of change and growth

All TCIS Counselors:

  • Are student focused
  • Work as part of a professional learning community, partnering with students, parents, educators and others in the peripheral community
  • Serve as advocates who provide support to maximize each student’s unique gifts, potential, and academic achievement
  • Work to facilitate the support system to ensure all students at TCIS are prepared with knowledge and skills that will give them the best opportunity for development towards maturity
