The Co-Curricular Activities

TCIS remains dedicated to educating the whole person, academically, spiritually, socially, emotionally and physically. An important part of this education is addressed in the participation of elementary to high school students in the many and varied cocurricular activities offered by the school. At times there is some confusion about what is a co-curricular. The co-curricular is an activity that works together or in conjunction with a student’s academics and is in a real sense an application of what is learned in the classroom. The co-curricular is an activity of equal value to the academics. Therefore, co-curricular activities complement the students’ academic studies or curriculum and makes them more comprehensive and richer. It is the school’s goal that through these opportunities, our students will learn life skills such as team work, leadership, and ethical, collaborative and critical thinking. At times, these activities may parallel the academic program very closely such an orchestra concert, a field trip, the weekly chapel, Spiritual Emphasis Week, or the Korea Culture Week.

Asia Pacific Activities Conference

In 2008, TCIS will be joining a new activities conference called the Asia Pacific Activities Conference or APAC. TCIS has been a member of the Korean-American Interscholastic Conference or KAIAC since its inception in 1972 and will continue to be; however, the school has sought to provide its students additional international experiences in all aspects of its programming. The APAC experience will give TCIS students a greater opportunity to interact with international students and their families. This will happen not only through the athletic tournaments and fine arts festivals but also through home-stays in other countries and by hosting of international students on the TCIS campus and in our families’ homes. Each year our students potentially will travel to Japan, China, Hong Kong, and the Philippines for APAC athletic and fine arts events. Beginning in the 2009, APAC schools and their students and teachers will be visiting Daejeon and the TCIS campus. TCIS is one of only eleven quality Asia international schools that are members of APAC. The other member schools include: Brent International School (Philippines); Canadian Academy (Japan); International School of Beijing (China); Seoul Foreign School (Korea); Shanghai American School-Puxi (China); American International School of Guangzhau (China); Concordia International School of Shanghai (China); Shanghai American School-Pudong (China); Western Academy of Beijing (China); and Hong Kong International School (Hong Kong, China).
