The Elementary School
Our elementary school is a diverse community that values quality education within a Christian environment for our students by providing a rigorous and comprehensive standards-based and inquiry-rich curriculum, a number of activities, and daily contact with our dedicated and experienced teachers. We are a Primary Years Program (PYP) Candidate school, as of 2005, with an authorization visit scheduled for April of 2008, by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB).
Our pre-school (PK) is our entrance level to our formal elementary education program. All students enrolled in PK program should be 4 years of age by the first day of school. It is a half-day program that focuses on the education of the whole child by focusing on language development, mathematics, PYP units of inquiry, experiential learning, engaging activities and play that foster an excitement for learning. As an introduction to a formal school setting, students will learn daily routines and procedures that will ease the transition into kindergarten, while learning about them and their world around them.
Our kindergarten through fifth grade program is organized by grade levels with one teacher per grade through fourth grade, and two classes of fifth grade students. Teaching assistants are available depending upon enrollment. Our students are challenged to be life-long learners and internationally-minded within a school-year that is 180 school days long, observing some Korean and American holidays.
The majority of our elementary faculty consists of certified elementary teachers, serving in their area of certification. They consider working at TCIS their calling, as they work with children in this IB and Christian international setting. Professional development opportunities are on-going, relevant, and address current educational trends applicable to quality international school programs.
