Academic Profile

Curriculum

The high school division provides a distinguished college preparatory program, with the expectation that all students will pursue some kind of higher education after high school. Over 95% of TCIS graduates pursue a college education directly after high school and are accepted at some of the most prestigious institutions of higher education in the world. The International Baccalaureate Organization Diploma courses began in 2005 with the first IB exams completed in 2007. English as a Second Language (ESL) or English Language Learners (ELL) programs and special education programs are also available.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme® is a comprehensive two-year curriculum available to juniors and seniors that meet approval from an IB committee. Students may choose to take the full IB Diploma consisting of six courses, three taken at the Higher Level and three at the Standard Level, in conjunction with the Theory of Knowledge Course, the Extended Essay and the Creativity, Action, and Service requirement. All IB courses are two-year courses.  There are currently 31 students in the Class of 2012 who are taking the full diploma program.

Grading System

Grades are recorded on the transcript at the end of each semester.  A cumulative GPA is calculated for grades earned at TCIS only, based on the final year-long grade in each class. All IB courses are weighted .5 points for Higher Level (HL courses) and .25 points for Standard Level (SL) courses, with the exception of Group 2 courses and Theory of Knowledge (TOK), which are not weighted.  By policy, TCIS does not rank students.
