The Midkiff Residence

The Midkiff Dorm is a coed dorm that houses 34 students. The dormitory was built in 2005 and sits just outside the campus gates. It is fully air-conditioned and heated. In addition to student and staff apartments, the dorm also has a TV lounge, a recreation room, a laundry facility, a ‘noraebang’ and fitness room, a music room, a group study room, a sitting lounge, and a student kitchenette. There are four staff members that help run this facility. The dorm parents are Kevin and Lorilynn Midkiff and the resident assistants, Mike Mellinger and Erin Curley.

Kevin and Lorilynn Midkiff have been working with youth in many avenues for over 18 years. They came here from Canada where their primary involvement with youth included youth pastoring and foster parenting. Lorilynn also worked in the public school system as a rehabilitation aide and an educational assistant. Their love for working with youth led them to TCIS over 4 years ago to serve as dorm parents and they have enjoyed it tremendously. They have 3 children of their own, Tanner(16), Austin(14) and Summer(13), who have supported their parent’s life choice to work with young people. They have enjoyed their move to Korea as well and have quickly settled in to make it their home.

Mike Mellinger grew up living most of his childhood overseas as his parents were missionaries. He lived in Belize, Central America for 4 years and Venezuela for 3. In that time he learned a lot about what it means to be a third culture kid and experience international living. From that time on though, he had been living in the States in Pennsylvania. His parents now reside in North Carolina. He graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania in 2005 with a degree in Speech Communication with an option in Broadcasting. He came to TCIS in January of '07. He likes to play guitar, sports and take lots of adventures. He counts it an honor to be working here at TCIS.

Erin Curley has been a wonderful new addition to the TCIS dorm staff this year. She was born and raised in western Pennsylvania. She attended Toccoa Falls College of northeast Georgia and graduated with a BS in Cross-cultural Studies and a minor in TESOL. This is her first year as an RA at TCIS, but her second year in Korea, as she taught English for a little under a year in Seoul.
