Chuseok Celebration in Elementary

Dragon Drop Stories  September 20, 2024

On the morning before the recent holiday, elementary students at TCIS enjoyed a fun experience celebrating Chuseok!

This traditional Korean festival was a wonderful opportunity for children to engage in hands-on learning. From making 송편 (songpyeon), the delicious rice cakes symbolic of Chuseok, to participating in age-old folk games, our students not only had fun but also gained a deeper appreciation for Korea’s rich cultural heritage.

What made the day even more special was watching students from diverse backgrounds come together to share these traditions. Seeing other cultures embrace the customs of their host country is a reminder of the beauty of cultural exchange.

At TCIS, we believe that celebrating the local traditions of Korea, such as Chuseok, is essential to fostering a meaningful connection with the community we call home. It’s more than just learning about Korea or holidays; it’s about nurturing an environment of mutual respect and understanding. These experiences help our students develop a sense of global citizenship that extends beyond the classroom, encouraging them to appreciate the value of cultural diversity in a connected world.

By participating in these celebrations, they learn to respect their own heritage and the traditions of others, preparing them to thrive in a truly international setting.
