Reading Under the Stars
Dragon Drop Stories October 10, 2024
Yesterday brought a perfect autumn day to the TCIS campus, followed by a clear, chilly evening that set the stage for the annual "Reading Under the Stars" event.
The soccer field buzzed with excitement as elementary and middle school students, along with their families, gathered together. Blankets were spread across the field and lanterns lit up the night – while faces smudged with hot chocolate and warm smiles added to the cozy atmosphere. Families shared a night of playing, chatting, and reading beneath the open sky.
While teaching the technical aspects of reading is essential, fostering a true love for it is just as important. Developing literacy happens through practice, and children are most likely to practice when reading is fun. The TCIS Library and Literacy specialists organize events like this throughout the year to nurture a love of reading and create a culture of excitement around books. Family-focused activities help to extend this reading culture beyond the classroom, encouraging literacy as part of everyday life.
