Working at TCIS

Great schools are shaped by educators who care deeply about their craft, their students, and the communities they help build. At Taejon Christian International School, we seek experienced educators who want to do excellent work within a collaborative international Christian school community.

Teaching at TCIS means joining a well-established international school in Daejeon, South Korea, where students are known as individuals, challenged purposefully, and prepared for what comes next. Our educators bring that promise to life – through excellent teaching, meaningful relationships, and active participation in the wider life of the school.

For educators looking for a school where professional practice, relationships, faith, and community genuinely matter, TCIS offers a distinctive place to contribute and grow.

Teaching Is Personal at TCIS

Relationships are central to excellent teaching at TCIS. Our relatively small classes allow educators to know students well – understanding them as learners, recognizing their strengths, noticing when they need support, and providing the challenge and feedback that move their learning forward.

Those relationships extend beyond individual lessons. Teachers also serve as mentors, advisors, coaches, activity sponsors, and trusted adults within the community. We value educators who see these roles not as separate from teaching, but as part of the work of helping young people grow.

Teaching Within the IB Continuum

TCIS is an IB World School offering the complete International Baccalaureate continuum – the Primary Years Programme, Middle Years Programme, and Diploma Programme. Across the school, we value teaching that develops inquiry, critical thinking, communication, reflection, and increasing student independence.

Our faculty bring experience from international schools, national systems, and educational communities around the world. Collaboration across that experience strengthens our practice. Faculty engage in professional learning, IB training, curriculum development, and ongoing conversations about how students learn best.

Contributing Beyond the Classroom

At TCIS, faculty contribute to the wider experience of students as well as to their academic learning. Athletics, arts, activities, outdoor learning, service, spiritual life, and other programmes create opportunities for educators to know students in different contexts and contribute interests and strengths beyond their academic disciplines.

We look for educators who want to participate in the life of the school – people who value community and understand that some of the most significant relationships with students are built through the experiences that surround the classroom.

A Christian Community of Educators

Christian faith is foundational to the mission and identity of TCIS. We believe excellent education can be intellectually rigorous, internationally-minded, and grounded in a Christian understanding of people, relationships, service, and purpose.

Our faculty are professing and practicing Christians who contribute authentically to this mission. Faith is expressed through spiritual life and worship, but also through the everyday work of teaching – how we care for students, engage thoughtfully with ideas, work with colleagues, respond to challenges, and serve our community.

A Professional Community

Experienced educators bring valuable perspectives to an international school, and TCIS benefits from faculty whose careers have taken them through different schools, countries, curricula, and educational traditions.

We also believe strong educators continue to learn. Faculty collaborate through professional learning communities, participate in IB and other professional development, contribute to curriculum and programme development, and learn from the experience of colleagues across the school.

TCIS is a place to bring what you already know – and to continue developing your practice alongside other committed educators.

Living in Daejeon

For internationally experienced educators, choosing a school also means choosing the community and quality of life that surround it. Daejeon offers an appealing balance – a modern, well-connected Korean city with excellent infrastructure and amenities, without the scale and intensity of Seoul.

TCIS is located in the city's Techno Valley area, with faculty housing and everyday amenities nearby. Daejeon's central location also makes travel throughout Korea convenient and provides easy access to the country's rail network.

For educators considering their next international school, TCIS offers the opportunity to join an established school, contribute meaningfully to its community, and build a rewarding life in one of South Korea's major cities.

Faculty Housing

TCIS offers furnished housing in the Techno Valley area, with school-covered utilities and layouts tailored to family size. Faculty housing is a short walk from local restaurants, cafes, and shopping, with school shuttles available for added convenience.

Techno Valley

The TCIS campus is located on a hillside in a peaceful area of Techno Valley, about a 10-minute walk from the bustling commercial district. Faculty housing is typically situated near neighborhood amenities, offering convenient access to everyday essentials.

Our first week in Korea wasn't easy. Almost immediately after arriving, my wife had to go to the ER for a serious case of appendicitis. It was an unknown place, unknown language... seemingly with only God on our side. Suddenly, people I have never met before started showing up at the hospital, giving us support and comfort. The place and the language didn't seem to be strange anymore... We were a part of the most incredible community I have ever seen.

The community is wonderful, especially if you have a family. Living in Daejeon is like raising kids in a small town, the staff kids know each other and play together after school; even the parents help one another by looking out for each others' kids. It's great to be in a place where you are loved and supported in all kinds of ways!

Working in Korea and TCIS, especially with the pay and benefits we receive, allows for phenomenal travel opportunities! Korea, which itself offers a great variety of cheap domestic travel and beautiful cultural places to visit, is pretty central to Asia and affordable flights abound for the many breaks from school that we enjoy here.

The school offers a lot of professional development support, which allowed me to attend the Oxford Study Course IB training in England. And, as a member of the APAC and KAIAC athletic conferences, coaches get the opportunities for more travel to places such as China, Japan, Guam, Philippines, and others for competition. If you enjoy travel, TCIS is a great place to work!
