Music Program Opportunities
TCIS has a dynamic and creative program where all are encouraged to sing, perform, compose and explore their passion for music. We offer the following in music instruction before and after school. Our Ensemble Program occurs during the school day to bring in all levels of musicians and to create opportunities for excellence:
- 9-12 Concert Band
- 9-12 Strings Ensemble
- 9-12 Orchestra
- 9-12 Choral Ensemble
- 6-12 Percussion Ensemble
- 6-12 Jazz Band
- 6-8 Concert Band
- 6-8 Strings Ensemble
- 6-8 Choral Ensemble
Our ensemble philosophy stands on the goal of creating music that is technically-sound and impacts the students as learners and musicians. Students are presented with a wide range of repertoire and are extended in their technique, tone, and understanding of musical conventions. Only through the transfer of knowledge and practice do students understand the power of performance.

Philosophy of Musical Education
At TCIS, music is more than a subject—it’s a journey of self-discovery, creativity, and connection. From early musical traditions to contemporary compositions, students explore a wide range of genres and cultures, developing both appreciation and artistry. Through listening, performing, and composing, students discover their unique musical voice and cultivate the balanced, open-minded, and reflective qualities celebrated in the IB Learner Profile.
Our program integrates composition, performance, and music theory to build a deep understanding of rhythm, melody, and harmony. Students learn how composers use these elements to create meaning and emotion, gaining insight into the cultural and historical contexts of music. As their technical and creative skills grow, students are challenged to think critically and innovate—to take what they’ve learned and make it their own.
As in all disciplines, music encourages us to learn from the past while shaping the future. At TCIS, students study through inquiry, collaboration, and performance, discovering an original voice that expresses who they are and what they believe.
Collaborative Learning & Performances
Collaboration is central to music learning at TCIS. Students participate in KAIAC and APAC ensemble festivals, perform in full orchestras for annual concerts, and showcase original compositions written in the IB Diploma Music Programme. Ensemble directors guide students in connecting classroom learning with live performance, helping them transfer skills and confidence to new contexts.
TCIS also partners with local professionals and organizations to enrich learning experiences. Students take part in master classes, workshops, and community festivals, sharing their music with audiences beyond the school. These experiences cultivate not only musicianship but also empathy, leadership, and a sense of purpose—qualities that define TCIS graduates who go on to prestigious universities and conservatories around the world.
